One of my buddies (Buddy A) is at the same network as I am and has a complete backup of my data. If I do a right mouse button click on this buddy and select properties, the dialog shows that I have 62,5 GB of data stored on this buddy.
Another buddy (Buddy B) does not have a complete backup of my data, nevertheless has 68,7 GB of data stored. In conclusion, Buddy B has at least 6,2 GB of data which I already have deleted and is deleted from my backup.

I created this difference accidentally myself with the next use case:
  1. A couple of months ago I executed the "I want to backup my data" with the intention to speed up the backup to buddy B.
  2. Buddy B was more on-line then I expected so there was no need to use the backup.
  3. A couple of months later I came back from a nice holiday. I wanted to speed up the backup of my photos; therefore, I exported my backups again. The critical step hereby was that I exported my data to the same folder (on an external HD) as in step 1. I had not deleted the old backup files and so I added the new files. (In the assumption that Buddybackup would only import the relevant data).
  4. This time I did go to Buddy B and imported my data.
Step 4 happened more than a month ago and since then Buddy B has more data then Buddy A who is usually up to date.
To solve this issue I tried the "buddybackup -clean" command on the PC of Buddy B; however, this had no effect.

Do you have a solution to delete the irrelevant data on Buddy B? (Preferable an option that does not include deleting all my backups at Buddy B and creating new backups ).

Hi Niels,

BuddyBackup should automatically cleanup the too well backed up files. I think this happens occassionaly, like every week or something.

Try the following:

1. Click Help, About BuddyBackup
2. Press Ctrl+D
3. Press OK
4. The Debug menu should be visible.
5. Press Debug, "Clean too well backed up chunks"

This should do a clean immediately. This might take a few minutes.

Also, just out of interest, how many backup copies do you have set?

Hi John,

Thanks for your replay. I will try that when I am at 'Buddy B'' and will let you know whether it works.

I have 3 buddies and have set 3 backup copies.

Hi John,

I tried the "Clean too well backed up chunks". It took only a few seconds and unfortunately did not solve the issue. Buddy B is not up to date and has 63,7 GB of my data while Buddy A (fully backed-up) and the 'MyFiles' folder on my own PC have 61 GB of data.

Hi John,

I noticed something else. In the Backup Status view of Buddybackup I noticed some folders with files I know of that I deleted them a couple of months ago (I have set the 'automatically remove backups older than' option to 60 days).
The details of the files indicate that the files are only backed up to Buddy B. There are no local backups. (I have set BB to keep local backup copies of all my files.)

Is there an option for automatically deleting these files?

Hi Niels,

These should get deleted automatically.

Note that the "60 days" is measured from when BuddyBackup first spots they don't exist any more, and not from their last modified time or backup time. Has it definitely been over 60 days since the files were deleted?

Another thing to consider is that the cleanup task only runs occasionally (every few days).

You can run it right now by going to Tools, Remove Old Backups.

Regards,

John

Hi John,

I checked the date of the folder on my external hard drive. It is from September 14, 2010. So, that is the date I exported my files for the second time to the external HD and imported these at buddy B. I can't recall the date of my first export; however, it is still more than 60 days ago.

Can't it be something like:
- My local BuddyBackup does not have local backups of the files; therefore, does not recognize that the backups can be deleted (There is nothing to delete on his site).
- Buddy B does not receive a 'file is deleted' message from my buddy, since my buddy has nothing to delete.

Just an update.

In addition to my post in this topic. A couple of weeks ago, I manually deleted all files that where only backup at "Buddy B". Therefore, my problem is solved.
