On my parents PC (we are both each others buddy) their computer reports 99% backup up (two buddies setup, but only one copy is made) and it shows 27 files are queued to be backed up. Looking in windows explorer: 1. As you would expect the folder containing the 27 files is shown as red i.e. needs to be backed up. 2. However, when I look in this folder the files listed as queued for backup are actually shown green .. so they have been backed up What is happening? No files are setup for exlusions or anything? One thing is that it was setup to make two backup copies over two buddies, but after a while it was changed to one copy distributed between two buddies .. but this shouldnt matter as it will still use the files copied to the other buddy as part of the ONE backup wont it? ....oh and I did export all data and import it on my PC after a few weeks and it was so slow in backing up.
Also, if I plug in any device that has say an SD card reader e.g. printer, BuddyBackup pops up a window with the following message: BuddyBackup.exe - No Disk There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive. \Device\Harddisk1\DR1
CANCEL TRY AGAIN CONTINUE ...It doesnt seem to matter which option I select as the same message appears, only clicking on the "x" on top right of screen shuts it up this happens on any PC I use with BuddyBackup on. I have no intention of using the printer etc to backup to, its just it comes with an SD card reader.
The biggest issue for me is the 99% backed up .. at the moment what do I trust, the icons in Windows Exporer updated by BB or the BB program? |

Hi Jamie,
This sounds like a bug. It sounds like BuddyBackup may be thinking that some files need backing, up but actually these files don't exist any more. If those files appear in BuddyBackup, but not in explorer then that's probably the cause. In that case you probably are 100% backed up, but BB thinks it needs to backup some files which don't exist any more. What you can do is run a special check which does some clean up. To do this: 1 Open BuddyBackup 2 Click File, Exit 3 Click Windows Start button, then Run 4 Type "C:\Program files\BuddyBackup\BuddyBackup.exe" -clean (with quotes) 5. Press OK This will hopefully remove the missing files. The other issue about the USB drive is definitely a bug - I'll make sure we take a look at this. Regards, John |

Hi,
I haven't yet tried this on my parents PC, but I now have a similar problem. I zipped up some files, then decided to delete the zip file, however looking at the "Files Backed up" more option - where it lists first hundred files that need backing up I have 27 files that need backing up and one of them is the zip file that I deleted. I am running Win7 and tried your special check by: 1. Selecting File exit from BuddyBackup 2. Typing "C:\Program files\BuddyBackup\BuddyBackup.exe" -clean from the run prompt (including quotes). It complained with the following : C:\Program files\BuddyBackup\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located it may have been moved to a different location. If I type "BuddyBackup.exe" -clean OR BuddyBackup.exe -clean up pops a buddybackup window for checking data consistancy, but the non existant file is still shown in buddy backup As I'm in Win7 Buddybackup is stored in C:\Program files (x86), so I tried typing C:\Program files (x86)\BuddyBackup\BuddyBackup.exe" -clean Again, up popped a buddybackup window for checking data consistancy, but the non existant file is still shown in buddy backup What do you suggest? Note: It would be helpful if one could attached screen shots to these messages rather than have to type error message in full. My parents run XP, so perhaps this procedure will help them, but it doesnt help me. Jamie |

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for useful info. Yes it sounds like you ran the clean correctly, though it clearly hasn't helped. The good news is I think we have a theory about what's happening. Can I get you to check just one thing so we can be sure? 1. Open BuddyBackup 2. Go to Backup Status 3. Find the file in question (the zip file) 4. Double click on it You should have see a screen showing all the versions of the file BuddyBackup. Can you then answer the following: 1) Is there a version listed? (If not the box will be empty) 2) If there is a version listed, what does it say in the "Backed Up To" column? Regards, John |

Hi Jamie,
Hmm actually that doesn't sound like the issue we were looking at. What that information tells us is that the file is partially backed up, and that a local backup copy exists on your hard drive. So really, there should be nothing stopping backing it up, apart from free space on your buddies. So, can I check a couple of other things: 1) Do you definitely have free backup space in your allowance? You can tell this on the Home page. 2) Does the recipient buddy have free space? If you have a look in the Buddy panel, you should see by their name how much free space they have. If it says "0 KB" then it means they have no space which might explain why the file isn't being backed up. 3) Has the backed up % gone up? It's a moderately large file and I guess it might take an hour or so to fully back up. John |

Hi, I have plenty of space as do my buddies. The file does not physically appear on my computer in windows explorer. I delibratley deleted it and removed it from the recycle bin as I wanted to see if zipping it saved space .. it didnt. I think the problem came about as I must have deleted the file in the middle of it backing up and so BB thinks I want it backed up, but it cant do this as it doesnt exist any more .. it may be in the local backup that buddybackup keeps? .. does that sound plausable? Jamie

Incidentally, running "C:\Program files\BuddyBackup\BuddyBackup.exe" -clean
on my parents PC hasn't resolved that issue either?! |

Hi Jamie,
OK. Interesting that you have lots of space and it's still not backing up. The file not appearing in Explorer, doesn't mean that BuddyBackup doesn't have it's own copy. It may have very quickly made a backup in the short time the file was saved. The "Local Backup: 100%" tells me that it thinks it has a local backup copy. Just one more thing to try: Try doing the clean thing again only this time do "-clean2". E.g. "BuddyBackup.exe -clean2" This does a more thorough self check, including looking for missing files (though will take some time to run!). John |

Hi,
Unfortunately this made no difference. However, a feature you referred to in your last post gave me an idea, which I have tried and it has worked. Within BuddyBackup I: 1. Select "Backup Status" 2. Select folder shown as not fully backed up 3. Select files shown as not backed up (the ones that do NOT actually exist on my PC as I delibrately deleted them); right click and select remove from backup 4. Job done; I and my parents are now 100% backed up I think the problem occured as: a. I zipped up some pictures to see if they would be any smaller; they were not, so I deleted zip file. b. BuddyBackup saw the zip file and marked it for backup c. When my buddy was next online, it couldnt backup the files as they didnt exist locally on my pc .. and possibly not properly within Buddy Backups log? d. It got stuck in a loop showing that these files (which dont actually exist as files on my hard drive) had not yet been backed up in buddybackup, yet there was no files shows as not backed up when viewed using windows explorer Whatever has happended, I cant imagine this is a unique situation to me and I think needs to be sorted. Hopefully everything I have told you will help you fix the problem. Thanks for you help Jamie |
